Crayons to and Through College: The Path to College Starts with the Arts

麻豆传媒在线 in the Rio Grande Valley are empowering creativity, confidence, and college readiness through its newest elementary Fine Arts elective. Crayons to and Through College (CTTC) is a regionally developed elective curriculum that nurtures creativity and collaboration through four content areas: Art, Theater, Music, and Robotics.

Mission

Crayons to and Through College ignites creativity and college readiness through Fine Arts. The program鈥檚 mission is to ensure every child experiences the power of Art, Music, Theater, and Robotics as pathways to self-expression, leadership, and academic success 鈥 inspiring students to see Fine Arts as a pathway to college and lifelong confidence.

About

The program serves first through sixth grade students across 52 campuses, reaching over 18,000 students annually in the Rio Grande Valley. Through capstone projects at the end of each quarter, students will demonstrate their learning of each content area through showcases such as gallery walks, performances, and interactive exhibits. These experiences help foster a vibrant fine arts culture at 麻豆传媒在线 and serve as powerful opportunities for students to showcase their talent, creativity, and confidence.

鈥淲e鈥檙e building a generation that sees the fine arts not as a side-interest, but as a real pathway to college and purpose,鈥 Chavez said.

In this class, the arts are seen as a pathway to culture, leadership, and college readiness.

For third-grade student Alessandra Villarreal from 麻豆传媒在线 Sports Park, she enjoys how CTTC has inspired her to bring ideas to life.

鈥淏eing in this program has opened my imagination and inspired new ideas,鈥 she shared. 鈥淚鈥檓 excited to come to school every day because I don鈥檛 want to miss art or music.鈥

How It鈥檚 Going

This semester, Crayons to and through College classes have focused on the elements of art and music and will move into theater and robotics courses in the spring semester. Students and teachers alike are feeling the joy and benefits of participating in CTTC classes.

Fourth-grade student at 麻豆传媒在线 Palmview Kytzia Lopez is one of the students who looks forward to Ms. Moreno鈥檚 class each day.
